1. Scholarship fund honors memory of Ian Atkinson (kentucky.com) — A new scholarship at the Ashland County Community Foundation is honoring Ian Atkinson by helping Hillsdale High School seniors heading to trade or technical schools. Local residents can donate online or by mail to support the fund, which reflects Ian's strong faith, work ethic, and love of helping others. Contributions of any size are welcomed from the Ashland community.
2. Call Claiming Shooting Sends Police to Lincoln Avenue Home (ashlandcountypictures.com) — Police and medics rushed to a Lincoln Avenue home in Ashland Sunday night after a caller falsely claimed she had shot her mother, triggering a full Special Response Team deployment. Officers found the family unharmed and no emergency, and are now investigating the incident as swatting possibly linked to online gaming. The case remains open with potential charges including telecommunications harassment and 911 misuse.
3. UH Samaritan Medical Center hosts Champions of Care (times-gazette.com) — University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center is inviting Ashland residents to its Champions of Care event on Oct. 28 at UH Samaritan on Main, highlighting new programs and caregiver achievements. Starting with a 5 p.m. reception, the evening features COO Sylvia Radziszewski discussing recent healthcare improvements and priorities. Community members are asked to RSVP by Oct. 19 and wear business casual attire.
4. Bendon acquires Hinkler North America business (centredaily.com) — An Ashland-based children's publishing company, Bendon LLC, has acquired Hinkler's North American business, expanding its lineup of coloring, activity, and educational products. Leaders say the deal should strengthen Bendon's brands, retail relationships, and distribution reach, potentially boosting the company's growth and economic footprint in Ashland.
