17 Confirmed Coronavirus Cases At Avon Lake Nursing Home
Health officials said impacted patients have been isolated and are being cared for by a separate team of health care workers.
AVON LAKE, OH — There are currently 17 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus at Avon Lake's Main Street Towne Center Community Campus. The nursing home is isolating COVID-19 patients and those suspected of contracting the virus, Lorain County Public Health said in a statement.
According to a statement from Main Street Care Center officials, patients began exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 earlier this week. Staff are using protective equipment to continue care for those impacted.
Patients are isolated in a separate quarantine unit and a specific team will be caring only for those impacted.

"Main Street is thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all resident and common areas within its facilities to Centers for Disease Control (CDC) standard. Education has been conducted with all facility staff regarding proper hand washing, transmission-based precautions, and the appropriate use of PPE. Main Street Care Center has been preparing for this type of scenario for countless hours since the initial onset of the COVID-19 threat," officials said in a statement.

- Screening and monitoring residents and staff for signs and symptoms of COVID-19
- Holding informational sessions with staff to keep them updated on COVID-19 developments
- Maintaining appropriate staff levels to continue care safely
- On March 11, visitors were prohibited from entering the facility
- Staff and approved guests, like first responders, must have their temperature taken before entering the building
The Main Street facility is located on Community Drive in Avon Lake.
Two Avon Lake residents have died due to complications from COVID-19, Mayor Greg Zilka said.
