3 Avon Students Named National Merit Finalists
Only about 15,000 students nationwide become National Merit Finalists.

AVON, OH β Three Avon High School students have been named National Merit Finalists. Avon's three finalists are: Tiara Eddington, Jacob Boesger and Matt LeHoty.
More than 1.5 million students annually apply for National Merit Scholarships. Only about 15,000 students nationwide become National Merit Finalists. The Avon students will now have an opportunity to compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $31 million. About half of all Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning them the title Merit Scholar.
Eddington, a 16-year-old senior, is a member of the marching band and student council. She would like to attend Brigham Young University and intends to study Applied Mathematics. Outside of the classroom, she's an avid piano player.

"Work hard and focus on what is most important to you," was Eddington's advice for other students.
Boesger, 18, is a member of the school's cross country, robotics and academic challenge teams. He plays viola in the orchestra and plans to study chemistry or math in college. He has applied to Case Western Reserve University and the University of Pittsburgh. He enjoys hiking in his free time.
"Find something you are passionate about. Put all your efforts into that and be the best you can be at something you love," he advised other students.

LeHoty, 17, is a member of the varsity tennis team and is a member of student council. He plans to study computer science at either Case Western Reserve University or the University of Michigan. He enjoys gardening in his spare time and playing piano.
"Most people don't set their sights high enoughβ¦you can accomplish anything if you work hard," was his advice to other students.
