5 Avon Students Named National Merit Commended Students
Two students have already been named National Merit Semifinalists.

AVON, OH — Five seniors at Avon High School have been named Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship program. The students are among the top scorers in the nation on the PSAT. They competed with 1.6 million other students.
Two students at the high school were named National Merit Semifinalists in September. They are now joined by their five peers.
About 34,000 students earned the distinction Commended Student this year. While Commended Students don't continue on in the National Merit Scholarship awards competition, they are recognized as some of the best PSAT performers in the U.S. (To stay up to date on these stories, subscribe to the Patch Avon-Avon Lake newsletter. The five Commended Students at the high school are:
- Max Smith
- Logan Sherrill
- Camryn Walters
- Jack Reed
- Drew Horton
Avon's two Semifinalists are Bhavya Appana and Ashley Granitto.
