5 Things to Know This Week: Nagel Bridge Closing, City Council Meeting and Volleyball Fundraiser.

Check out our 5-things list to make sure you know what's in store for this week!

1. City officials announced that the Nagel Road Bridge will be closed starting today. That means Nagel between Detroit Road and and I-90 will only be useable for local traffic, as there are no outlets (Avon Road remains closed at the Westlake border). And Nagel will be closed south of Chester. According to the city’s web site, detour signs will be posted. Demolition and a complete reconstruction of the bridge will take 18 months.

2. With overcast skies and a 40 percent chance of showers, you might want to drop the sunglasses and pick up an umbrella. Today’s high will hit 61 degrees with a low of 54.

3. The Avon City Council will convene tonight at 7:30 at City Hall to hold a semimonthly work session. A noise disturbance at Henry’s at the Barn, a reappropriations ordinance and the authorization of a deal to buy municipal property will all be on the agenda and up for discussion.

4. Avon High's girls volleyball team is one of several hundred squads from around Ohio that is participating in Volley For the Cure – a volleyball tournament that raises money for Ohio Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. There will be gift baskets for raffles, a 50/50 drawing, a serving game for fans and a bake sale. The tournament will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the gym. Admission is $3 per person and $1 if you wear a Volley for the Cure t-shirt.

5. The Achievement Centers for Children's adaptive baseball league will play its final game of the season under the lights at on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and the sporting event is open to the public.
