Avon Lake is offering a variety of things to do this week. From sports to city hall, here's a way to keep in touch with your community. 

  1. Monday is Presidents Day. All Avon Lake schools are closed. Federal, state and county offices are closed. is open for business.
  2. There is no council meeting Monday night, however the city’s Environmental Committee will meet in the council committee room at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 to discuss Asian carp; deer management and melanoma prevention.
  3. On Tuesday, senior citizens are welcome to drop in to the Old Firehouse Community Center at 100 Avon Belden Rd. for complimentary coffee and to enjoy a discussion on current events. The talk starts at 10 a.m.
  4. Shoremen fever continues! The 18-0 boys basketball team will take on Brecksville Feb. 25 at in postseason play. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. Don your maroon and gold and come out and cheer the undefeated Shoremen. 
  5. Saturday’s fundraiser will help officer seriously injured in Avon Lake. Five area police and fire departments, including the Avon Lake Police Department are holding a  to benefit Avon police officer Pete Soto from 5 to 10 p.m. Feb. 26 at the . Soto, critically injured on Avon Belden Road in October in a collision while driving his police motorcycle, is now at home recovering. Tickets are $15 and are available at the .
