6 Must Know Back-to-School Dates In Avon Lake

AVON LAKE, OH — During the first week of August, Avon Lake Schools will send information to families about accessing back-to-school forms online. As night falls quicker, it is yet another sign of summer's impending close and the beginning of another school year.

While no one is suggesting it's time to pack up the shorts and bust out a trusty cardigan, it is time to start thinking about students returning to school. It's also time to run out and buy school supplies for students and their teachers.

This year will mark the first time Ohio's new, permanent sales-tax holiday will be in place. On Friday, August 2, through Sunday, August 4, there will be no sales tax on certain school supplies, clothing and school instructional materials.

According to the Ohio Department of Taxation, the sales tax holiday will apply to: clothing priced at $75 per item or less, school supplies priced at $20 per item or less, and school instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.

The sales tax holiday will end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. All stores must take part in the sales tax holiday, according to the Ohio Department of Taxation.

The upcoming sales tax holiday is one of the must-know dates for Avon Lake parents. Here are a few others coming up:

• First Day of School, Grades 1-12 - August 21
• Kindergarten First Day of School - August 23
• LEAPS First Day - August 27
• Fall Sports Pictures - August 30
• Labor Day, No School - September 2
