64 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed In Avon Lake Last Week

Lorain County saw a slight uptick in new COVID-19 cases last week.

AVON LAKE, OH — There were 64 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Avon Lake last week, Mayor Greg Zilka announced.

The city had been averaging slightly less than 60 cases per week for three weeks. Lorain County also saw an increase in new COVID-19 cases last week, with 1,136 confirmed cases. Zilka noted the uptick could be attributable to the New Year's holiday.

COVID-19 vaccinations are underway statewide and in Lorain County. Zilka said he believes vaccinations for residents 80 and older could begin next week as Ohio moves into Phase 1B of vaccine distribution.

"If you have registered for a shot notification you should be getting an email with the details soon. If you wish to register to be placed on the vaccination notification list go to Lorain County Health Department on how to proceed," Zilka said in a statement.

Phase 1A has largely consisted of frontline health care workers, first responders and patients and staffs in nursing homes. Gov. Mike DeWine said many hospitals should begin finishing Phase 1A in coming weeks, allowing the state to move on to Phase 1B.
