Oberlin Police Chief Ryan Warfield suspects the group were exposed to fentanyl.
OBERLIN, OH — Seven people were exposed to an unknown substance after police responded to an overdose in a Walmart parking lot in Oberlin. Oberlin Police Chief Ryan Warfield suspects the substance is fentanyl.
Police were told there was a possible overdose in the parking lot of the Walmart. One officer and a suspect were then exposed to the unknown substance, Warfield said during a press conference. Both persons were briefly unresponsive. Their condition was consistent with opioid exposure.
Five medical officials then came into contact with the substance at Mercy Medical. Hospital officials are now using precautions while treating the exposed persons.
