Thank you for the quote John Denver. It is 9 days until I embark on the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure. Sixty miles is a long way, but I will do it. This will be my third walk and unfortunately (for now) the last in Cleveland. I may crew or walk in another city next year. I haven't decided. I have to get through this year first.
Yes, my bags are packed with the exception of my clothes. I camp. We don't have to, but I enjoy it. I see it as a part of the experience. If you live nearby, you can go home or some of the area hotels have partnered with the 3 Day to provide low cost rooms and shuttle service to and from the camp. Camp life is fun. There are dance contests, trivia games, we have computer access compliments of one of our sponsors (Bank of America), massaging chairs to relax in, shopping with New Balance (another sponsor). It is a lot of fun. We will have our village of pink tents set up for us as we arrive in camp on day one. The party starts as soon as we get word the last walker is on their way into camp.
There is no shame in being the last to arrive. We all walk at our own pace. There will be around 700 walkers this year and we all chat along the way and keep each other encouraged. We keep each other motivated. If someone is thinking they can't make it to the next stop, then we encourage them to take a shuttle bus and rest up so they can continue. We are all there for the same cause.
Yes, my bags are packed and I can't wait for next Friday. I hope you will join us along the way to cheer us on. Show your support for those who are fighting the battle, those who lost the battle and those who have not been diagnosed yet.
During this next week I will provide information on "Cheer Stations" where you can join others to encourage and show your support for the men and women who have made this commitment. In the meantime I will check my list again to make sure I have everything I need and start my final preparations for one of my favorite events of the year.
