🌱 Duct Tape Festival Coming Soon + Local Restaurants Make List

Here are the top three stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:

1. It's time to celebrate duct tape in Avon! The 2022 Festival is less than a week away. June 16-18, come out to Mercy Health Stadium to eat some great food, have a cold beverage, make a craft from duct tape, see the duct tape sculptures and have some fun. There will be inflatables, music, a beer tent, axe throwing, a parade and photos with superheros. Don't miss this unique celebration. Hope to see you there. 2. Local workers feel they are not getting their fair share of the jobs available to decommission a former power plant in Avon Lake. So, they took the streets to protest Friday. According to a news article by Cleveland 19, "Ryan McDavid with Laborers Local 758 said, “When you have community workers or local workers, they take pride in what they do, they care about our communities and the work that is going on. Asbestos abatement is very dangerous and when it’s not done right you can jeopardize the community, the parks, the waterways so it’s very important to use our local workforce.” The Cleveland 19 article stated that a spokesperson for Avon Lake Environmental Redevelopment Group, a subsidiary of Charah Solutions (the company decommissioning the plant), said that among its priorities is hiring local workers. “ALERG had an open bid process for the work taking place at the plant and we’ve continued to talk to local unions throughout this process.” (Cleveland 19)
   
3. The Steakhouse Restuarant in Avon and Taki's Greek Kitchen in Avon Lake both made the Cleveland Scene's list of the, "40 Essential Suburban Cleveland Restaurants to Add to Your Dining Calendar." Steakhouse was highlighted for its atmosphere, housed in a 160-year-old Pennsylvania Dutch barn, with an open kitchen and a spacious loft dining room. The article in the Cleveland Scene also said, "First-rate steaks and chops share the menu with less conventional steakhouse fare, like smoked chicken, pasta Bolognese and horseradish-crusted grouper." Taki's Greek Kitchen was highlighted for its "contemporary Greek food." The Cleveland Scene article states, "From dips to dessert, Diamantis (the restaurant's chef) treats his ingredients with the care and attention they deserve, resulting in dishes that are bright, clean, fresh and bursting with life."
