Art Installation Could Be Coming To Avon Lake Park
First, the city needs an artist. Do you have any ideas for a permanent art piece commemorating the city's Bicentennial?

AVON LAKE, OH — In case anyone has missed the memo, Avon Lake is in the midst of an epic Bicentennial celebration. The city has rolled out a Beer Festival, has taken part in historical marker dedications, sold old street signs, and has much more planned. One of those plans is for a permanent art installation.
Barb Cagley, the city's digital media director and chair of the Bicentennial Committee, said an artist with ties to the community suggested doing a commemorative art piece. The committee loved the idea and has opened up a contest for submissions.
"Once we have submissions we will be asking the public to vote on the piece they would like to see representing their community. We would like the art installation in one of our primary parks so we are asking the artist to select the location that best works with their design," Cagley told Patch in an email.

Specifically, the art piece could be placed in one of the following parks: Miller Road, Blesser Park or Weiss Fields. The piece must be 3D and must be a permanent structure, meaning it has to withstand strong winds, hard rains and whatever else nature can throw at it.
Artists must either live-in or have previously lived-in Avon Lake for five years to be eligible. Submissions have to suggest a way to fund the project. An artist can only submit one entry to the contest.

All applications for the project are due by November 8 at midnight, according to the city's website. Submissions can be entered here.

Cagley said the Committee has already gotten suggestions for things like dog parades, a pig roast, and a sunrise yoga event.
