Avon, Avon Lake Schools Closed Tuesday Due To Extreme Cold

Wind chill temperatures could be as low as -30, according to the National Weather Service.

AVON, OH β€” Both Avon and Avon Lake Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 22 due to extreme cold temperatures.

Current forecasts are predicting wind chill temperatures of -7 degrees, with the possibility of wind chill lows plunging as far as -30 degrees at times. That level of extreme cold can cause frostbite in 30 minutes, the National Weather Service warned.

"Arctic high pressure remains over the region. Temperatures will likely reach there lowest levels mid way through the night then slowly warm through sunrise as winds increase after midnight. This will potentially lead to the coldest wind chill values from shortly after sunset through mid morning on Tuesday," the NWS said.
