Avon High Artist Earning National Recognition

Senior Mallory Stowe's artwork will go on display in Columbus and New York City this year.

AVON, OH — A senior at Avon High School has won a place in the Ohio Governor's Youth Art Show. Mallory Stowe's painting, "Jamie", is one of only 300 pieces selected from student submissions across the state.

Stowe's painting will be on display at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus from April 22 to May 17. The show has been described as "highly selective" by a Avon Local Schools.

The Ohio State University bound student said she has no plans on giving up art. "I plan on continuing art, alongside my humanity studies hoping to find an intersection that aids people," she said.

Stowe's painting was inspired by experiments with different lighting, which she played with during the Cleveland Institute of Art's Pre-College Program. She used a girl in the class, named Jamie, as a model for her painting.

Stowe's been earning a ton of accolades for her artwork. She also got a National Medal for the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her painting "Self Portrait". Her painting was judged against more than 350,000 submissions from across the nation. Less than one percent of the submitted works are recognized at the national level.

Stowe has been invited attend a recognition ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June. Her work will then be put on display at Parsons The New School of Design or Pratt Institute in the summer of 2018. It will then be put into a 2018-2019 Art.Write.Now.Tour with other national winners. This tour will travel and be displayed at various locations around the country.
