Neighboring Avon Lake placed 21st in the state and received a college readiness score of 44.4. That district’s superintendent, Bob Scott, said his district might have ranked lower due to the classes students participated in.

“We would rank higher if we ‘pushed’ more students into AP classes, but we offer ‘Dual Credit Classes’ instead,” he said. “It is not counted in this calculation, but we feel it meets the needs of a different segment of our student population.”

Neither Avon Superintendent of Schools Jim Reitenbach nor principal Kristina Dobos-Buller wanted to comment on the rankings.

The report also provided a snapshot of the high school. The student body makeup is 49 percent male and 51 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 11 percent. The school counts 52 teachers and has a 18:1 student/teacher ratio.
