Avon Lake Cancels 2020 Memorial Day Parade
The city said the spread of the new coronavirus led to the decision to cancel the parade and ceremony.

AVON LAKE, OH — The 2020 Avon Lake Memorial Day parade and ceremony have been cancelled because of the new coronavirus outbreak, the city announced Wednesday. Officials said they were concerned about the health and welfare of residents.
When the outbreak began in Ohio, in mid-March, Gov. Mike DeWine said parades were not essential and should be canceled. That mandate led to the decision to cancel this year's Memorial Day ceremonies.
"Therefore, in accordance with the guidance of public health officials and Gov. DeWine, the parade and ceremony have been cancelled. The American Legion (state and federal) have cancelled all events through August, and Avon Lake's Post 211 must follow course," the city said in a press release on Wednesday.
