Avon Lake Community Police Academy Starts In September
This is chance for residents to an inside-look at how the department functions.

AVON LAKE, OH — The Avon Lake Police Department is again hosting a Community Police Academy. The program will begin September 5 and will run for 10 weeks, giving participants an inside look at how the city's law enforcement operate.
The Academy is held on Wednesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Each session will focus on different aspects of the department's operations.
Topics include firearms, communications, patrol and computer forensics, among others. Each session will feature lectures, demonstrations and student participation.

The Academy is open to residents over the age of 21. Each participant will be subject to a background check. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be obtained at the Avon Lake Police Department. They can also be emailed to interested participants by contact rburson@avonlakepolice.org.
"We hope that the graduates of the Academy will utilize the knowledge gained through the program to assist the Police Department in its goals of providing a safe community for the citizens of Avon Lake," the department said in a posting on the city's website.
