Avon Lake Community TV Receives 5 Awards, Nominated For More

The Philo Festival of Media Arts Video Competition recognized the achievements of Avon Lake Community Television last week.

AVON LAKE, OH — Avon Lake Community Television won five awards and received nominations for "Best in Show" at the 2020 Philo Media Awards.

The Alliance for Community Media - Central States Region received 200 entries for award consideration. The program recognizes the best community programming in its regional video contest, called the Philo Festival of Media Arts Video Competition.

Avon Lake Community TV took home five awards and was nominated for "Best in Show," "Excellence in Editing," and "Best Series Program." The following programs took home awards:

  • Lucas Hricko, production assistant, was named a winner in "Sports Entertainment/Talk" for Jackie Tomco's "The Jackie-O Show: Ohio Village Muffins vs Avon Lake"
  • Hricko was also named a finalist in "Community Event General - Parades/Festivals" for his work on "The Jackie-O Show at the Fourth of July Jubilee"
  • Kathryn Eyring's "Aging Gracefully with Guest Glenn Blair" was a finalist in "Interview/Talk Show" with editing from Brian Bowles, production assistant
  • Bowles was also named a finalist in "Sports Entertainment/Talk" for his work on "Avon Lake State Champions Nikki and Christine Chiricosta"
  • Chris Quinlan's "Community Connection with Guest David Kos" has been named a finalist in "Underserved Voices," with editing from Stephanie Biggers, production coordinator

Hricko's "Boo by the Woods 2019" was nominated for "Excellence in Editing" and "Best in Show," which recognizes the best media of the year. Eyring's "Aging Gracefully with Guest Glenn Blair" has been nominated for "Best Series Programs."

The Philo T. Farnsworth Excellence Award Winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony in October.

Avon Lake Community TV is a department of the city of Avon Lake and is comprised of two channels: government access and public access. Government Access provides recordings of government activities, issues, legislation, events and meetings. The station works to keep citizens informed and active in government.

The Public Access channel provides an "open forum" for all citizens, organizations, clubs and enterprises in Avon Lake. The channel allows these groups to produce non-commercial, informational programming.

Avon Lake Community TV staff also provide training to residents and business owners on the handling and operation of cameras and editing equipment.
