Avon Lake Announces 12th Confirmed Coronavirus Case

AVON LAKE, OH — Avon Lake now has 12 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, COVID-19, according to Mayor Greg Zilka. A woman in her 40s tested positive on Sunday for the virus.

The woman is a family member of another Avon Lake resident who tested positive for COVID-19, Zilka said. She is self-isolating at her house and appears to have a mild case of the virus.

Zilka reminded residents to limit their trips outside of the home to essential activities and to maintain a safe social distance of 6 feet from another person when venturing out. Residents should also wash their hands vigorously and repeatedly throughout the day.

On Friday, Zilka shuttered several local facilities to discourage gatherings and encourage social distancing. Closed facilities include:

• Playgrounds
• Basketball Courts (the hoops have been removed)
• Skatepark
• Tennis/Pickleball Courts
• Dog Park

The Lorain County Health Department said residents should not assume they are immune to COVID-19, or at less risk, because their area may or may not have fewer confirmed cases of the virus. Population-level data can be influenced by several factors, including ability of a person to get a test or access medical care.
