Avon Lake Coronavirus Update: New Cases, Trash Returns To Normal
City officials said trash collection will return to (almost) normal patterns.

AVON LAKE, OH — Since the start of the new coronavirus outbreak, at least 58 Avon Lake residents have contracted the virus, according to Mayor Greg Zilka. There were two new cases confirmed over the weekend.
Zilka said there were no new cases identified on Friday or Sunday, but two were confirmed on Saturday. The last Avon Lake death due to complications from COVID-19 came on April 20, when a 73-year-old died.
As many city services continue to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Zilka and other city officials have negotiated the return of normal trash collection. The city's refuse collector, Kimble, reached an agreement to "return Avon Lake's trash services to virtually the same level as spelled out in the contract agreed to last year," the city announced.

Here's what that means for you:
- Solid waste — Continue to fit all trash into the Kimble-provided waste car. Don't leave any materials outside of the cart.
- Recycling — Fit all recycling items into the Kimble-provided cart. Don't leave any materials outside the cart. Acceptable recycling includes only paper, cardboard, metal cans and No. 1 and No. 2 plastic containers and jugs.
- Bulky items — Kimble will continue to collect bulky items from the curb. However, items that require two people to load should be held for the next two to three weeks. Items that can be broken down or disassembled will be collected without issue.
- Yard waste — Try to reduce yard waste where possible.
