Avon Lake High Student Brought THC Vape Pen To School: Police

Police said the student handed the pen over immediately when confronted by an officer.

AVON LAKE, OH —An Avon Lake High School student brought a vape pen used for smoking THC into the school. A police officer confiscated the pen, according to police records.

On Dec. 17, an officer working at the high school heard that a student had brought a vape pen in. The officer asked the student about the rumor, and the student "immediately" handed the vape pen over, police said.

The officer discovered the pen was designed for use with THC, an oil derived from marijuana plants. The student was taken to the school office, where he was disciplined, and the case has been filed with the juvenile court.

The student, a 17-year-old, has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs, according to Avon Lake Police records obtained by Patch.

There was a second marijuana incident before the end of 2018 in Avon Lake. On early Christmas morning, at 1:20 a.m., a patrolling officer spotted a car driving recklessly on Lake Road. The vehicle turned onto Moore Road and nearly hit another car, prompting the officer to pull the car over.

The driver was from Vermont, but driving an Avon Lake resident's car. The driver was cited for failure to yield and possession of marijuana. The owner of the car was asked to come pick-up the vehicle.
