Avon Lake High Students Nominated For Military Service Academies

AVON LAKE, OH — Two Avon Lake High School students have been named principal nominees for the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy by Rep. Marcy Kaptur. Other area students made Kaptur's alternate nomination list.

Kaptur's two principal nominees from Avon Lake High are John Perry, for the U.S. Naval Academy, and William Logan Hubert, for the U.S. Air Force Academy. Perry and Hubert were selected after a Citizens Advisory Committee recommended them from a pool of qualified applicants.

The Citizens Advisory Committee recommended students based on leadership potential, academic record and overall achievement. While Kaptur's recommendation will carry much weight, final acceptance will still be determined by each service academy.

“I am extraordinarily honored to nominate such an outstanding group of dedicated and accomplished young people from Northern Ohio to our nation’s venerated service academies,” said Kaptur. “Our service academies have a reputation for cultivating some of the greatest leaders in our country’s history. This year’s nominees were selected not only for their academic achievement, but for their demonstrated leadership abilities and commitment to service. I look forward to their future success and thank them for their commitment to serve our nation in uniform.”
