Avon Lake Landmark Gets State Dedication

Lake Shore Electric Baggage Car #38 to Receive State of Ohio Marker

The Ohio Historical Society will be visiting Avon Lake on Sunday, September 9th, to place a Historic Landmark Plaque at the site of Lake Shore Electric Car 38, The Ohio Historical Markers program, begun in the 1950s, encompasses over 1,600 unique markers that tell the state's history as written by its communities. Markers are erected by local community sponsors in partnership with the Ohio History Connection and describe the people, places, things, and events of Ohio's past.

After the cars restoration by owner and LSE historian Tom Patton, #38 was moved to a place of prominence along Lake Rd. in Avon Lake. The area known as "Beach Park Station" has played an important part in local history. Created in 1901 from the merger of four smaller railways, the Lake Shore Electric provided luxurious cars, and fast service between Cleveland, Toledo, and Detroit. The LSE transported Clevelanders to the western part of Ohio that was largely farmland, and played a major role in the development of Avon Lake. "Beach Park" was developed into a resort with a dance hall , beaches, and amusements.

This car will be available for public viewing to celebrate this event. Along with the dedication there will be refreshments and music provided by "Music on a Mission"and the National Anthem will be sung by Music on a Missions "Joyful Voices". The dedication will begin at 4:15 pm rain or shine. Refreshments will be provided.
