Avon Lake Makes U.S. News' List Of Best High Schools

The home of the Shoremen is among the top 50 high schools in Ohio.

AVON LAKE, OH β€” Avon Lake High recently made U.S. News' list of the best U.S. high schools. The home of the Shoremen was ranked among the top 50 high schools in Ohio.

β€œInclusion on the U.S. News and World Report list of Best High Schools in the Nation is a source of pride for Avon Lake City Schools,” said Robert Scott, Avon Lake City Schools superintendent.

Avon Lake High ranked as the 33rd best high school in Ohio. Nationally, Avon Lake was the No. 966 best high school. Among Northeast Ohio schools, Avon Lake was No. 12.

U.S. News ranked more than 17,700 public high schools across the U.S. In Ohio, 691 high schools earned a place on the list.

U.S. News used a number of weighted criteria to come up with the rankings, the most important being college readiness. You can see the full methodology here.

β€œThe hard work of students, staff, parents/guardians, and our community often goes unnoticed because of the fast pace of the world in 2020. Being ranked highly at the national, state, and local level allows us to pause and give everyone some well-deserved praise and accolades," Scott said in a statement.

"While this ranking goes to Avon Lake High School, it is important we continue to recognize the efforts of our elementary, intermediate and middle schools. The outstanding work done from PreK through eighth-grade in the Avon Lake schools allows our high school to reach outstanding levels of learning," Scott added.
