Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka Will Seek Re-Election

Zilka has been a longtime public servant in Avon Lake. He was first elected to city council in 1985 and has been mayor since 2012.

AVON LAKE, OH — Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka will seek re-election, he announced this week. The longtime public servant has been mayor since 2011.

“I look forward to speaking with Avon Lake citizens about our accomplishments and our plans for the future. As the Mayor of Avon Lake, I believe that I have demonstrated strong leadership in promoting the unique and special opportunities of our beautiful city, resulting in sound fiscal decisions during tough times and insuring the excellent safety responses and services our citizens deserve,” said Zilka.

During his tenure, Avon Lake has faced several crises, Zilka notes. He touted his ability to guide the city through those turbulent waters, while building a strong financial base for Avon Lake. He added that economic development, particularly on the west end of the city, will be a priority for his administration.

Zilka moved to Avon Lake in 1974 when he was hired as a Social Studies teacher at Avon Lake High. He was first elected to Avon Lake City Council in 1985, according to his biography. He retired from teaching in 2006, after 35 years at the high school.

In 2011, Zilka ran for mayor and was elected. He has served in that position since 2012.
