Avon Lake Mulls Future Development, Seeks Public Input

Even while the city celebrates its 200th birthday, officials are looking to the future and considering new construction projects.

AVON LAKE, OH — As Avon Lake celebrates its 200th birthday, officials are planning for the more immediate future. The city has partnered with OHM Advisors to create a land-use plan for new developments and construction projects.

"A comprehensive plan really is sort of a large look at what a city can be. It’s essentially a blueprint for the future," an OHM official said in a city statement. “This isn’t a specific guide that will tell exactly what you need to do in every case. This sets up the parameters for future development and future ideas and future policy changes to occur.”

Mayor Greg Zilka and Economic Developer Ted Esborn have already started work on the plan. The former has met with local business owners to discuss what they would like to see the city do moving forward.

The city also wants public input on the plan and has created a committee of residents that will meet regularly with OHM. There are also two public meetings scheduled for February, where anyone can come and share their vision for Avon Lake. Those meetings will be held:
