Avon Lake Resident Targeted In Bank Scam

Police said a resident was called by someone pretending to be from his bank.

AVON LAKE, OH — A caller posing as a bank employee may have gotten access to an Avon Lake man's bank account. About $1,400 was taken from the man's account, but was later returned by the bank.

On April 21, the resident called Avon Lake police and said he was the victim of a fraud. The resident said he received text messages, purportedly from his bank, saying there had been fraudulent transactions on his account.

He then received a phone call from a woman who said she worked at the resident's bank. The two talked and then the resident noticed $1,400 missing from his checking aaccount.

The resident was reimbursed by his bank for the stolen money, according to police records. Investigators said the case is now closed.
