Avon Lake Schools Holding Substitute Job Fair

AVON LAKE, OH - If you're looking for the occasional spot of work, need a little extra cash, or just want to get your foot in the door with an education system, the Avon Lake School District has an opportunity for you. The district is holding a Substitute Job Fair on Jan. 21 at the Avon Lake High School, 175 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake.

To be considered for a position, you'll have to register online and then fill out an application, in advance of the event. Then you'll be able to attend the 10 a.m to 1 p.m. job fair. Candidates will need a clean criminal background and a minimum education of a high school diploma or GED.

The event is being co-run by Rachel Wixey & Associates, which helps school districts fill substitute positions. Angie O'Brien, the company's lead recruiter of special assignments, says she hopes to see between 75 and 100 people turn up for this job fair.

The district is looking for help in the following substitute positions:

• Custodial / Cleaner ($9.00/hr.)
• Lunch Monitor ($8.25/hr.),
• Paraprofessional ($9.75/hr.)
• Secretary ($9.25/hr.)
• Study Hall Monitor ($9.25/hr.)

O'Brien says there isn't a hard target for the number of potential hires.

"We don’t know. These are daily substitutes. There’s always, always a need for them," she said. "There’s not ever a time where we’re not looking for substitutes."

The job fair will work like this. Applicants who have pre-registered and pre-applied will be separated from those who did not. The pre-prepared group will be taken to pews to wait to meet with one of three recruiters. The group that did not pre-fill out the paperwork will be taken to laptops to fill out the information. Once they have submitted an application, they will be taken to wait in one of the recruiting pews.
