Avon Lake Schools Receive Overall 'A' Award From State
Only 27 school districts in Ohio received the award, which recognizes superior performances on the state report cards.
AVON LAKE, OH β The Avon Lake Schools are one of 27 districts in Ohio to receive the Overall A Award from the Ohio Board of Education. The award is given for achieving high performance, outstanding progress and momentum for students benchmarks on the annual state report cards.
The Overall A Award goes to districts that received an overall "A" grade on the State Report Card. This is the first year the Avon Lake Schools have received the award.
"We appreciate the State Board of Education recognizing the hard work and dedication of the Avon Lake City School District staff and students. State testing is a small slice of how we measure learning in Avon Lake. With our supportive community, we strive to create opportunities that educate the whole student," Avon Lake Schools Superintendent Robert Scott told Patch in an email.

In addition to its overall A grade, Avon Lake received the following grades on each section of the 2019 report card:
- Achievement β B
- Progress β B
- Gap closing β A
- Graduation rate β A
- Improving at-risk K-3 readers β Not rated
- Prepared for success β B
"Again, we are appreciative of this recognition for excellence in this area. We look forward to working with all educational entities as we prepare our young people for 2020 and beyond," Scott said.
