Sometimes in soccer you can dominate the offensive statistics and still not win the game and such was the case on Monday as North Ridgeville was able to scratch out a 1-0 win over Avon Lake.
Avon Lake had a decided advantage in shots on goal, shots, and corner kicks over their fellow Lorain County foe. The Shoregals took an impressive 17 shots on goal compared to 6 shots on goal for North Ridgeville. Freshman Olivia Siko led AL with 8 sog, seniors Emily Peepers and Natalie Quintero had 2 sog each, and Rada Zunich, Ali Robinson, Marisa Dzwonczyk, Maggie Moore, & Bri Carlin all chipped in with one shot on goal. On corner kicks, Avon Lake took 4 compared to one for the Lady Rangers, but could not find the back of the net at any point in the evening. The lone goal was scored by North Ridgeville senior Kayla Zingale with 6 minutes left in the game on a pass from the back which was very nearly offsides. This led to a breakway run by Zingale who shot the ball past the outstretched AL goalie Amy Crooks for the game winner.
The defense had a solid game led by the 7 girl rotation of Emily Peterson, Rada Zunich, Kellie Norris, Esther Killius, Natalie Quintero, Maggie Moore, and Addy Poole. In goal for the Shoregals was Amy Crooks who made 5 saves in the match. For the Lady Rangers, sophomore Bri Casement was outstanding as she stopped all 17 shots sent her way by Avon Lake.
