Avon Lake's Lancione, Srail Place at States
Seniors end high school careers with fourth and sixth places in Columbus.
Two seniors, Pete Lancione and Morgan Srail, ended their high schoolΒ track careers by earning a piece of history, a medal at the 2011Β OHSAA state track and field championships, which were held June 4 at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus.

After seeing five of his competitors from his preliminary heat make the finals, in which Lancione was seeded seventh with his 39.13, but he dug deep and earned a fourth place finish with hisΒ 39.12.

The event was won byΒ an SWCΒ athlete, Donovan Robertson of Berea, one of the best hurdlers in the history ofΒ Ohio. Robertson won with a 36.9, just seconds off the state record.
In the girls pole vault competition, took home sixth place with her jump of 11-0. The senior standout, who took second in this winters diving championships, just missed her attempt of 11-6, which would have placed her second or third place.

Medina senior Alex Wasik won the eventΒ with a vault of 12-2.
The future is bright for the Avon Lake girls program. Three underclassmen just missed getting to the podium for the Shoregals.
Sophomore Christine Bohan had a personal best by over seven inches when sheΒ threw for (39-9ΒΌ) in the Division I shot put. That toss placed her 10th in the state. She opened competition with a 38-07.75, then hit her best on her third throw.
Avon Lake senior Katy Link also finished 10th in the Division I 3,200Β with herΒ time of 11:28.43. Cincinnati Glen Este senior Michelle Thomas defended her title with a time of 10:48.32.
Junior Kristen Winkel missed qualifying for finalsΒ with her 15.19 in the hurdles. But she finished as the 13th best Division I hurdler in Ohio in the 100 hurdles. Chantel RichardsonΒ of Chesterland recorded the best time with a 14.41.
Avon Lake's Nick Bossard also made it to state, and garnered a time of 40.32. Although he did not make finals, he ends his season as the 13th best hurdler in the state of Ohio.
