Avon Lake's Lear Middle School Plans Annual Veterans Day Celebration
The event includes breakfast, an orchestra performance, and speeches from veterans.

AVON LAKE, OH - For more than 20 years, students at Learwood Middle School, 340 Lear Road, in Avon Lake have been honoring veterans with a special program on Veterans Day. This year's event takes place Friday, Nov. 11 beginning at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast served by student council members. During breakfast the orchestra plays. Avon Lake's American Legion Post 211 will be included with a presentation of colors, opening prayer and retiring of colors. Selected 8th grade Language Arts students will read their recently written VFW Patriot's Pen essays.
Zac Lewis, U.S. Army veteran and former Learwood student and Avon Lake High School graduate will speak about his experiences in the Army and why he joined after his best friend and former high school football teammate - Captain Mike Medders - died while serving in 2008. There will be a video compilation from the 8th grade's recent trip to Washington, DC that included a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington Cemetery.
