Avon Schools Get 'A' On State Report Card

AVON, OH — The controversial state report cards grading each school system in the state were released Thursday. The Avon Local Schools received an overall grade of "A."

Districts are graded on six components and on student performance on state assessments administered to students in grades 3-12.

Avon Schools received the following grades on each section of the report card:

• Achievement — A
• Progress — A
• Gap closing — A
• Graduation rate — A
• Improving at-risk K-3 readers — Not rated
• Prepared for success — C

Those grades can be compared to the district's performance in 2018:

• Achievement: B
• Progress: B
• Gap Closing: A
• Graduation Rate: A
• Improving At-risk Readers: NR
• Preparation for Success: C

The "Gap closing" metric shows a school system's ability to serve "vulnerable" students in English, language arts, math, graduation, and English language proficiency.

State officials said performances on the report cards improved statewide.

"This year's report cards show continuous improvement is ongoing and that, across Ohio, we are getting better and better at challenging, preparing and empowering each child," said Paolo DeMaria, superintendent of public instruction
