Avon Schools Make Prestigious Honor Roll

AVON, OH — For the third year in a row, the Avon Schools were one of only 250 school districts in the U.S. and Canada to make the Annual Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. This is the fifth time overall the district has made the list.

The honor roll recognizes schools that increase the number of students participating in advanced placement classes (which earn college credit for many students), while also increasing or maintaining the number of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams. Avon Schools offer 20 AP courses.

“This (placement honor) is a testament to the fact that we promised the community of Avon that we would continue to expand our AP offerings, and to bring those offerings to a more diverse population of students on our campus,” said Kristina Dobos Buller, Avon High School principal.

The Advanced Placement community said they want to get more students of diverse backgrounds involved in courses and testing. The Avon Schools said they are committed to expanding the availability of AP courses to motivated students.

“Each year we have been able to hit the benchmark for growth and our students continue to rise to the occasion, as do our teachers. I have to give a lot of credit to the educators at our high school that are willing to explore these AP courses, take on the added work and do an awesome job of facilitating college curriculum in the high school classroom. In Northeast Ohio we are one of the trendsetters in terms of AP course offerings. We are proud to be able to offer our students a variety of options," said Dobos Buller.
