Avon Seminar Discusses Preventing Youth Vaping, Drug Use
A free event for parents will give tactics for preventing vaping, alcohol and drug use.
AVON, OH — Avon Schools' third seminar for parents will discuss vaping, alcohol and drug use and how parents can prevent their children from abusing substances. The free session will be held October 2 at Avon Middle School.
The events are free to attend and are open to all parents. Childcare is not provided, but the sessions are designed to run 90 minutes. The October 2 session on vaping, drug and alcohol use will be presented by Ashley Truman-Skvor from Lorain County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.
Severe pulmonary illness, a sickness in the lungs, has afflicted at least 10 people in Ohio and officials believe all of the cases are linked to vaping. Officials are investigating at least 14 other cases of potentially vaping-induced sickness.

Severe pulmonary illness has impacted more than 450 people across 33 states, including Ohio. Health officials believe the cases are all linked to vaping. Ohio Department of Health (ODH) leaders are trying to stymie youth use of e-cigarettes and vaping.
"To support our families, Avon Local Schools annually presents a series of seminars designed to meet specific needs for the family. All seminars are held at the Avon Middle School in the Media Center (7:00—8:30 p.m.)," the district said in a flyer for the events.
