Avon Student Wins National Ice Skating Competition
Avon High senior Kaelynn Higgins took first place in her category at the United States Figure Skating 2019 National Showcase.

AVON, OH — Avon High senior Kaelynn Higgins took first place in the prestigious and competitive United States Figure Skating 2019 National Showcase event. Her victory earned her the title 2019 National Showcase Senior Interpretive Champion.
From July 31 to August 4, skaters from around the nation gathered in Wenachtee, Washington. Over the course of a week, 343 skaters competed in 728 starts. Higgins performed for a panel of five judges and took first place in her category.
As part of the Interpretive competition, skaters had to choreograph a program on the spot to music they were not given prior to the competition. She bested two other skaters to take first place in the challenge.

Higgins has been skating for 10 years and competes in three challenges: Interpretive, Showcase and Free Style skating. She is a member of the Forestwood Skating Club of Parma (Ohio) and trains at Michael A. Ries rink in Parma.
In her free times, Higgins teaches skating and works in the special needs preschool classrooms at the Avon Early Learning Center.
