Avon Swimmers Advance to District Meet
Eagles send five individuals, one relay team to Division II meet at Cleveland State.
The boys and girls swim teams swam in different pools for Division II sectional competition and found enough success in both to advance members of both teams to this weekend's Division II district meet at Cleveland State.
The Eagles had junior Katie Schlather advance to the district in the 500-yard free while senior Alaina Cvetic and sophomore Carly Croyle did the same in the 100 back at . They will be joined by the Eagles' 200 medley relay.
Schalther was ninth in the 500 at Lakewood with a 5:51.81 while Cvetic with a 1:05.71 and Croyle with a 1:08.34 finished 12-13 in the 100 back.
The Avon 200 medley relay that included Croyle, junior Bridget Hughes, junior Rachel Wolchko and Cvetic placed seventh at Lakewood in 2:08.41 to get a spot in the district meet at CSU.
Avon swim coach then left Lakewood High School with little time to spare to see her boys team compete at Hawken where senior Elliot Runge advanced to the district in two events and senior Tudor Chesaru moves on to CSU in one.
Runge and Chesaru will both swim at Cleveland State in the 100-yard breast where Runge has a qualifying time of 1:00.40 and Chesaru goes with a clocking of 1:08.73. Runge also goes in the 200 individual medley where he had a sectional time of 2:00.97.
There is no Division II diving with all who are entered in that division advancing directly to the Division II district meet at Cleveland State early this week.
