Avon Wins SOUPer Bowl Food Drive

The Avon Eagles won more than their gridiron rivalry game on Friday, they also won the charity food drive.

AVON, OH — The Avon Eagles won a riveting, nail biter of a football game on Friday night, knocking off their rivals, Avon Lake, 13-12. The packed crowd at Joe Firment Chevrolet Stadium also decided another Avon versus Avon Lake competition: the SOUPer Bowl.

Avon collected more food and money for the Community Resource Services food pantry, which services residents in Avon and Avon Lake. Together, the two communities collected nearly 6,800 pounds of food and $13,250 in monetary donations.

With the cash donations, CRS will be able to get an additional 66,000 pounds of food for the pantry, the Avon Schools said.

"Thank you to everyone from both communities for all the donations. CRS and the families they serve are the winners," a spokesperson for the Avon and Avon Lake schools said.
