Beloved ER Nurse Struck and Killed on Highway

The body of Elizabeth Kurish, 60, found on Interstate 71 Thursday night.

(Originally posted on Dec. 27, 2016) AVON, OH — An emergency room nurse and grandmother of nine found dead along Interstate 71 near the Delaware County rest areas Thursday night may have been killed in a hit-and-run accident, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The Chronicle-Telegram reported that Elizabeth Kurish, 60, of Lorain, was dead when troopers discovered her body near the southbound lanes of the interstate. A car registered in her name was found parked at a nearby rest area.

An emergency room nurse at area hospitals for nearly 30 years, she was described by Elyria Medical Center president Charlotte Wray as a “beloved colleague and a personal friend.”

Her daughter-in-law, Emily Riddick, described Kurish as “our everything,” and said her survivors are "completely lost and heartbroken.”

They include her husband, Keith Kurish; children, Chris Riddick and Crystal Griffith; and nine grandchildren.
