The 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") has made private health care insurers refund over $1.5 Billion to US consumers in 2011 alone, due to the provisions in the law that require insurers to spend at least 80% (small insurers) or 85% (large) of received premiums on providing health care, or refund the difference to consumers. This is one of many benefits from the Act, and more will begin to take place in 2014.
