Bicentennial Celebration Continues In Avon Lake
A 200th birthday is a big reason to celebrate and the city has a slate of events planned.

AVON LAKE, OH -- The Avon Lake Bicentennial celebration kicked-off during the July 4th holiday. After the haze of firework smoke cleared, the city was still looking for ways to celebrate turning 200. It's now clear the festivities will continue throughout the year.
The Avon Lake Bicentennial website has a calendar of upcoming events, which extends months into the future. With that in mind, Patch is collecting the must-attend celebrations in July through September, so residents can plan their schedules accordingly.
On July 27 and 28, during the Summer Market, the Avon Lake Bicentennial Committee will be on-hand to sell vintage Avon Lake items. The Summer Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Veteran's Memorial Park and is hosted by Girls Give Back.

There are no notable events in August for residents to check-out, sadly. However, there are plenty of things to do in September.
- Baggage Car Dedication - September 9 - Residents can check out the dedication ceremony for the Lakeshore Electric trolly baggage car. There will be music and refreshments at the event, which will be held at Beach Park Station from 4:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Big Trucks - September 15 - The annual event for kids and families, which allows children to see some of the city's large vehicles, will include a historical twist in 2018. That's because attendees will be able to see how Avon Lake Police and Fire have evolved since their inception.
- Bicentennial Beer Festival - September 22 - The first, and hopefully inaugural Beer Festival, will be held at Miller Road Park. Live music will be played while attendees sample craft beers from local breweries. There will also be food trucks and activities for kids. That event runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Alumni Homecoming - September 29 - All Avon Lake Schools will be open to the public for tours and "remember when" moments. Additional details for the event will be revealed closer to the date, the Bicentennial Committee said.
