Bicyclist Hit By Car In Avon Lake, In Critical Condition

The accident happened on Lake Road, police said. The bicyclist was flown to MetroHealth.

AVON LAKE, OH — A 51-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a car while bicycling on Lake Road, police said.

A little after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, police began receiving calls about a car hitting a bicyclist on Lake Road, near the corner of Moore Road. When officers and Avon Lake firefighters and EMS arrived, they found the bicyclist in critical condition.

The woman was lifeflighted from the parking lot of the Avon Lake Fire Department to MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland. An Avon Lake police official said Thursday that she remains in critical condition. The cyclist is from Bay Village, police said.

Witnesses told police that a dark car with tinted windows cut a turn on Lake Road and hit the bicyclist, who was riding in the opposite direction. The car then drove off, leaving the cyclist near the road.

Investigators believe the car may have been a Ford Focus, with tinted windows. The car was last seen driving south on Moore Road. The car has not yet been located, police said.
