Boil Your Water: Water Line Break Impacts Avon

Residents on part of Detroit Road will need to boil their water for at least 24 hours, the city says.

AVON, OH — Disease-causing organisms may have entered part of the city's water supply, the city said Wednesday. Residents on Detroit Road, from Nagel Road east to the city limits, will need to boil their water before drinking it.

A water line broke on Detroit Road on Wednesday morning. As a result, the city is asking impacted residents to use bottled water or to boil their water before consuming it. Businesses and homes on the aforementioned part of Detroit Road, and all North Star Lane residents, will need to boil their water.

The city said impacted residents should bring any water intended for consumption to a boil, let it boil for a minute and then let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes, food preparation and drinking until further notice, the city said.

Anyone who starts to have stomach ailments should contact their doctor. People with compromised immune systems, babies and some elderly residents may be at increased risk. The city said those people should seek drinking water advice from healthcare experts.

The boil alert is a precautionary measure, the city said. There is no evidence yet that any dangerous organisms have entered the Avon water system.
