Avon Lake Girls Soccer 2012 Preview
Find out the outlook for the 2012 ALHS Shoregal soccer team

The Avon Lake girls soccer program is celebrating its 20th anniversary this season with a new head coach in Daegen Duvall and a retooled roster which must replace the loss of 12 seniors to graduation. In the 20 years of the Shoregal program their overall record is 187 wins - 114 losses - 39 ties for a winning pct. of 61%. They had 16 consecutive winning seasons from 1995 thru 2010. In addition, they have received NSCAA Academic All-American recognition in 3 of the past 4 seasons.
Coach Duvall would like to recognize the following returning letter winners:
Seniors Megan Braye, Annie Coyne, Christine Gates, Claire Jones, Kailey McClain, Junior Emily O'Connor, and Sophomore Sarah Nasr.

and welcome first year varsity players Seniors Alex Nasr and Abby Rogers, Juniors Amy Crooks, Karen Krause, Emily Peepers, Emily Peterson, Natalie Quintero, and Ali Robinson, Sophomores Clare Adams and Esther Killius, and Freshman Catie Corrigan. Team Captains for this year are Christine Gates, Kailey McClain, and Emily O'Connor.

Senior midfielder Kailey McClain (four goals, four assists in 2011), senior defender Christine Gates (one goal, one assist), senior forward Claire Jones (two assists), junior forward Emily O’Connor (four goals, two assists) and junior midfielder Emily Peepers (one goal). “Catie Corrigan, an incoming freshman, has been impressive with her speed, technical acumen and ability to finish,” Avon Lake head coach Daegen Duvall said.
The offense will be supported by midfielders Clare Adams, Karen Krause, Alex Nasr, Natalie Quintero, and Ali Robinson.
Senior Abby Rogers and junior Amy Crooks are goalkeepers and will rely on the help of defenders Sarah Nasr, Christine Gates, Emily Petersen, Megan Braye, Annie Coyne, and Esther Killius,
Duvall said the team goals are to gain NSCAA Academic All-American recognition, team unity, and successful results on the field of play. “Westlake and Brecksville are the top conference teams to beat,” he said about the SWC competition. “All nonconference teams scheduled for this season have great soccer pedigree and will provide some very challenging matches for us to best prepare us for postseason play.” The non-conference schedule includes 2011 Division I state champion Strongsville and Div. I state semi-finalist Sylvania Northview along with Division II powers Rocky River and Hathaway Brown. Perennial soccer power Magnificat is also included on the schedule. The combined total winning percentage in 2011 of all the teams on the Avon Lake schedule this year is over 60% and will provide a great challenge for the Shoregals.
