Today's Low-Yield World, Consider Alternative Asset Classes
Investors should consider a broader spectrum of alternative asset classes that can provide enhanced return and diversification opportunities.

In today's challenging, low-yield world, investors should consider a broader spectrum of alternative asset classes that can provide enhanced return and diversification opportunities. However, as with income investing, investors still have considerable knowledge gaps when it comes to adding alternatives.
Are your clients considering the potential of alternatives? According to BlackRock Barometer survey, many investors are not. And of the ones who are, do you know their motivations? Use the following insight to craft a constructive discussion about alternatives with your clients:
- For investors without alternatives, 72% have no plans to add them over the next 12 months. This is down from 85% in the fall of 2011.
- Of those investors who are moving assets into alternatives, 47% say they are doing so because there are more opportunities and easier access than before. This differs from financial advisors, who tend to believe the benefit of uncorrelated returns is the most important factor for allocating to alternatives.
