Trevor Britton Talks Post Game: Ohio State vs Miami (FL)

A quick analysis of the Ohio State vs Miami (FL) football game.

Post-game analysis for the Ohio State Buckeyes from OSU student and grad Trevor Britton

Well the Ohio State Buckeyes, led by Luke Fickell, lost their first game of the season. The rushing offense was effective, but the passing offense was non-existent. Apart from the 22 yards that Braxton Miller threw for in the last seconds of the game, the Ohio State Offense passed for 13 yards. Regardless of how a defense plays, you will not win any games if you can’t pass the ball.

The bad things to take from the game: The wide receivers struggled to get open for a second week in a row, the offensive line didn’t give our quarterbacks much time to find any receivers that may be open, and the defense made some more fundamental mistakes in the beginning of the game, that shouldn’t be happening at Ohio State. My biggest concern is the second quarter; Ohio State made it to 1st and goal twice, and failed to score touchdowns both times. If they could have scored touchdowns instead of field goals, the game would have been 17-14 instead of 17-6.

The good things to take from the game: The defense, after the first quarter, was very solid. Apart from a few big plays and bad tackles, they did what they could to keep the buckeyes in the game for four quarters. The defense also forced some turnovers by intercepting Jacory Harris twice, and also stopping the Miami defense on 4th down. The special teams played their best game to date; the punter Ben Buchannan had an outstanding game and consistently pinned the Miami offense behind their 10.

Overall, this doesn’t look like it will be the best season in Buckeye history, but if they can survive Nebraska before Posey and Herron come back, they might be in good enough shape to qualify for a decent bowl bid.
