Bubba's Q Offers Southern Comfort
Former Browns player Al "Bubba" Baker makes tasty barbecue
With so much football and barbecue, walking into at 820 Center Road in Avon made me feel like I’d been transported to Texas.
We were quickly seated on the open section of the patio. The restaurant’s large patio with outside bar wasn’t open on the chilly evening, but their covered patio – a screened in porch with large picnic tables – was a perfect place to enjoy the southern fare.
In case you’re wondering about all the football stuff, Bubba’s Q was opened by former Cleveland Brown Al “Bubba” Baker and his wife, Sabrina, after he retired from professional football.

We started with the southern fries, which are topped with barbecue sauce, pulled pork or beef brisket, topped with cheese and bacon. The cheese sauce tasted as good on the pork as it did on the fries.
The large menu includes a variety of sandwiches, appetizers and barbecued pork, beef, ribs and chicken.

We couldn’t decide what we wanted to eat so my friends and I decided to get the MVP, a huge plate with two kinds of ribs, chicken, pulled pork and beef brisket, plus sides. Sadly, my friends decided to skip the restaurant’s unique de-boned baby back ribs, which is Bubba Q's claim to fame.
The menu said this was enough food for four (or one lineman), and we found this to be true. For the price, this certainly was a valuable plate.
After all that tasty barbecue, we found ourselves too full to even attempt to eat dessert, so we wrapped up our leftovers and headed out.
Overall, Bubba's Q was a perfect treat for summer evenings. The restaurant offers catering and carry-out if you’d rather some down-home cooking at home or your next party. We went on a Friday evening, without a reservation and had no trouble getting a table.
Bubba's Q opens for lunch at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday and close at 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Bubba’s Q is closed on Mondays.
