Candidate Statement:
If elected, my professional experience as an attorney would greatly benefit the and the Avon Lake City Council. As a former Assistant Attorney General for the state of Ohio, I understand how government operates, both at the state and local level. Understanding how government operates is an essential tool in knowing how to address the concerns of Ward 1 residents. Through my experience with the Avon Lake Environmental Affairs Advisory Board, I have become keenly aware of the City’s goals and objectives that relate directly to its natural resources, but also the goals of the City as a whole.
As an attorney in private practice at Bricker & Eckler LLP, I understand the needs and concerns of individuals and businesses. I have learned how to solve problems on a practical level, but also how to use all available resources to come to a solution. Effective communication is the key to finding solutions.
I have three primary objectives if I am elected:
First, I would work to ensure that Avon Lake lives within its means as a city. Like a family checkbook or a business, Avon Lake must be a good steward of its finances by continuing to find efficiencies and cost savings wherever possible.
Second, I would work to increase economic development in the city. In order for Avon Lake to continue growing, it must grow its economic base. I would seek to encourage growth by taking a lead role in the City’s efforts to market itself to potential new businesses.
Finally, I would strive to maintain the high quality of services provided by city government, including the police, fire and service departments. I would pay particular attention to the problems arising from the storm and sanitary sewers around the city to alleviate flooding experienced by many residents. Keeping the infrastructure of Avon Lake in good working order will continue to attract residents and new businesses, and keep property values high.
I look forward to being able to continue the dialogue with the residents of Ward 1 to ensure that Avon Lake continues to grow and prosper.
