Cemetery Tours, Boo By The Woods: Avon Lake Bicentennial

The city's 200th birthday celebration continues through October, with a couple of spooky events for residents.

AVON LAKE, OH — The city's year-long Bicentennial celebration will continue with a pair of events in October, both themed perfectly for the spookiest month of the year. First, residents can take part in a cemetery tour before joining up with the family-friendly Boo by the Woods spectacular.

The cemetery tours will be held October 18 and October 20 in Avon Lake's only cemetery: Lakeshore Cemetery. Guests can take a guided tour through the tombstones and "meet" the city's earliest settlers. Attendees will also learn an abbreviated history of Avon Lake, including where the city's street names come from.

Groups will meet at the Fogler House at 4:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m., and 7 p.m. on both October evenings. Attendees will then walk the short distance to the cemetery with their guide. Refreshments are provided. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased online through Heritage Avon Lake.

After taking part in the cemetery tours, residents can then head over to Boo by the Woods on October 20, the annual and iconic Halloween event held at the Avon Lake Public Library. The family-friendly Halloween party at the library features indoor and outdoor activities, haunted trails, and famous characters. Tickets are required to visit the haunted trail because there are storytelling elements. No self-guided tours are allowed that day.

For guests that didn't get tickets for the trail, there's still plenty to do. There will be cool characters on-hand for residents to interact with, ghost stories and more.
