Clevelanders in the Civil War
Join others at the library on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. as the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War is marked. Learn about notable residents whose lives were touched by the conflict, including the Rockefellers, Severances and Hannas from historian Marge Wilson. She will also cover Abraham Lincoln’s stop in Cleveland en route to his inauguration and the first local units to leave for war.

Friends of Avon Lake Public Library is a nonprofit, volunteer organization, which provides funds for all Library programs. Interested in learning more about the Friends and their volunteer opportunities? Come to their “meet and greet” dessert on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

Young adults in grades 5-10 are invited to join the new Teen Advisory Board (TAB). The first meeting is Thursday, Sept. 22 from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Future projects include: planning YA events, suggestions for new YA materials, special TAB-only events and more. Sign up now at the YA desk.
Card Workshop
Make four mini-cards and seven tags, perfect for the upcoming holiday season, on Saturday, October 8 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Class is limited to 20 and children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and can be done at the Circulation desk.
Lorain County Reads – Soul of a Chef by Michael Ruhlman
Well known author, food blogger, cook, journalist and occasional Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef judge Michael Ruhlman is coming to Lorain County as part of the second Lorain County Reads literary project. Join the book discussion on his book The Soul of a Chef on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. Registration is required and copies of the book are available at the Reference desk. Then mark your calendars for An Evening with Michael Ruhlman on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Avon Lake Public Library.
